subject: A Middle East Tennis Court Lighting System Needed Special Ballasts And Fixture Coatings [print this page]

One of the strong suits of a good lighting vendor is the customization of tennis court lighting systems. Although these systems are configured standard on our website in the form of kits, they are seldom sold as-is to clients. It is almost always necessary to use the kit basics as a configuration template which is then modified to suit the specific needs of an individual client.

Such factors as the number of actual fixtures used, mounting brackets, the type of ballasts used to power the fixtures, lighting poles, and poles heights are variables that are determined by the size and number of courts being lit. Geography and climate are also variables that often decide equipment specifics, as we sometimes see in the case of needing special protective finishes and coatings added to the equipment.

Photometric design software is always used to customize a system in order to ensure that all these variables balance together into the best possible outcome. A recent job we did for a lighting consultant in Canada bears out this point.

She had a client in Middle East that required specific tennis court lighting components. Needing to buy the equipment herself first, and then ship it overseas, she searched online for a vendor. It was then that she found us online and contacted us for equipment recommendation and sourcing.

Her Middle East client had informed her that they intended to purchase light poles through a vendor in their own nation. What they needed to purchase through her agency were fixtures and mounting brackets. They also needed recommendations on how to configure the equipment they purchased from North America and the poles they purchased through their own channels.

One of the reasons the Canadian consultant chose to buy tennis court lighting equipment from us was because of our practice of using photometric analysis tools to develop the optimum configuration layout for the equipment at hand.

Another reason she chose to purchase the equipment through us was because of a specific need her client had for the equipment itself.

For reasons that were not shared, the client wanted all fixtures and mounting brackets manufactured with metallic silver powder coating. Thanks to our access to a variety of American tennis court lighting fixture manufacturers, we were able to find equipment that met this specification.

We then used our advanced photometric software to develop a recommended plan of installation. While the client overseas had already indicated they planned to buy their own lighting poles, there was still uncertainty about exactly where to place them. There were also questions about how many court lights should be placed on each pole, and at what heights these fixtures needed to be mounted.
