Greece is supposed to be the playing ground of the gods, and is a melting pot of rugged landscapes, verdant greenery and dusky skylines. With balmy winters and scorching summers, the islands are perfect for tourists, and provide a great alternative to your standard beach holiday. Island hopping between the islands has become really popular, and its a great trip away.

Mykonos is one of the more unspoilt islands, but offers golden beaches and some great walks. It comes to life in the summer when the clubbers descend, but it a heady mix of ages and cultures. Make sure you have travel insurance in case you get injured when walking some of the trails.

Crete is distinguishable by its mountains, and its rich history, including the leper island that sits just off Plaka. The colony was made defunct years ago, but it is a stark reminder of history, and you can take a trip over to the island in the summer months.

Symi is a great island to visit if you prefer to get away from the beaches; its rocky landscape was once a favourite with the rich and famous, but now it is a favourite haunt for divers.

Santorini is now the popular island for the rich and famous, and is said to be the best island in Greece for views. It does however come at a cost, as the hotels are quite expensive. It's an island of extraordinary contrasts, with black volcanic sands, white cliffs and turquoise waters.
