Senior Independent Living - A New Reality

In that bygone time, what this usually meant was that a nurse was present at the facility and maybe your grandpa could walk around a little bit on good days.

But that is not the case anymore and the phrase senior independent living has taken on a whole new meaning.

Now the most common thing to do when you are faced with the situation of needing to take care of someone who is getting on in years, is you go to the internet. And there you will find that the world of senior retirement communities has evolved into an entirely new breed of place.

These communities used to feature such exciting activities as checkers on Tuesday or watermelon on the third Friday of July or maybe a lively round of looking at flowers. That is so yesterday.

Today's modern facilities have areas reserved for the senior intramural softball league, Olympic sized heated pools and private cabanas by the outdoor spa area. They are in fact, much more like the place you would want to go on vacation rather than a place to stick your grandpa.

It's not like the new kind of retirement facility is all fun and games and parties. But sometimes it sure seems that way. The people who are retiring now are the baby boomers, that iconic group of people who brought revolution into the forefront of popular culture and thinking. No one really thinks the folks who made Woodstock a symbol of counterculture are going to sit around and play shuffle board, do they?

The best examples of these new retirement living facilities now sport unlimited wireless internet connections in the onsite Starbuck's. Classes in how to manage your Facebook fan pages and competitions to see who can get the most Twitter followers in the shortest amount of time. Those are the kinds of things that mark senior independent living communities these days rather than rows of folks in wheel chairs lined up in the community center to see the local 4th grade cheerleading team perform. Again.

If you are interested in finding out more about senior independent living communities and facilities then the internet is your new best friend because many of them are online and waiting for you to contact them so they can help you with the arrangements. Just make sure you don't jump at the first offer that comes along because the way the economy is right now, they need you a lot more than you need them and it is easy to strike a very good deal.
