subject: Tips For Staying Motivated To Jog [print this page]

Many people love jogging, as it's not only a great form of exercise, but it's also a way to boost your energy level and mood. One of the challenges, though, is sticking with your program day after day, and week after week. You need to be careful so you don't get injured, which will greatly hinder your progress. Here are some tips to help keep you healthy and motivated to keep jogging.

Never skip your stretching either before or after you jog. You can prevent many different kinds of injuries by stretching. There is obvious impact when you run, or jog, and the stretching warms up your muscles, makes them more flexible and able to safely absorb the impact. When you stretch, you should stay relaxed and not strain yourself. Remember that if you are too aggressive when you stretch you can actually cause injuries, so go slow - no bouncing. When you are stretching, the point is not to have any pain, and you do not want to feel pain because either something is wrong or you're going too far.

It is most important to do light stretches that work the leg muscles before and after jogging. To remain safe and healthy while jogging, make sure you always pay attention to the terrain you're running on. As a general rule, keep away from steep hills and areas that have lots of rocks and treacherous obstacles. Sure, running terrain that you're not used to can bring something new to your routine, but you will only hurt yourself if you aren't skilled at it. When you run or jog on hilly terrain, you are putting a lot of undue pressure on your feet, knees and leg joints, and that's why you should start out going easy on flat terrain.

Always take in some water before you begin your jog every time. Also, we have to say that you should never run on a full stomach. Ok? A little pure fruit juice is also good, but not anything with extra sweeteners, such as soda or energy drinks. Never drink a gallon of water and start running - you'll get sick. Some people like to drink while they jog, whatever - it's up to you, really. You need to hydrate after you run, always, and the best way is... yes, water! Proper hydration can prevent all kinds of problems, especially when it's baking hot outside. There are several reasons to start jogging on a regular basis. You will see an improvement to your overall fitness level, along with losing any excess weight you may have. Jogging is also a great way to improve your mood. You will get the most benefits from jogging if you are consistent about it. To get started with this powerful exercise, just use these tips and you're well on your way to better health and fitness.
