The concept of construction planning and control; planning and control techniques barchart, CPM, PERT,

line of balance, multiple activity chart; computer based planning and control; applications of work study, risk

management. Theory of decision making. Proposal inputs such as risk assessment, cost and benefit estimation

and feasibility studies are examined.

Contract Management and Law (10 units)

The course considers the management and contractual responsibilities of construction managers and

organisations from the establishment of a project team and the instigation of a contract. Principles of

administration of construction contracts; formation of construction contracts and subcontracts; contract

administration of different phases of construction projects; options for project delivery; subcontracting; analysis

of selected contracts; contract disputes, arbitration, mediation, litigation; contract claims; risk allocation in

construction contracts; international contracting.

Resource Planning and Management (10 units)

This course covers the different elements of the planning process of construction projects. The relationships

between the planning process, site establishment and construction methods are covered. It also introduces

the student to the processes of cost planning and control during the different phases of construction. Particular

emphasis is placed upon planning techniques online mba, cost control tools and the effect the client, design team and type

of contract has on the planning process.

Construction Project Finance (10 units)

An introduction to financial accounting; the measurement of business income and statement of financial

position; the relevance of cost accounting in managerial decision-making; the theory and practice of costing

systems and budgeting techniques; methods of financial analysis and project evaluation, such as break-even

analysis and capital budgeting techniques.

Safety Management in Construction (10 units)

This course aims to equip candidates with a thorough knowledge of selected managerial policies and activities

applicable to the construction industry. The skills obtained from this course will assist candidates to employ

effective safety programs and procedures into construction projects to mitigate health and safety incidents.

Advanced Building Services (10 units)

The major objective of this course is to provide a learning experience for engineering/construction professionals

in the key issues and concepts of planning and operating in the international environment. Topics covered

include globalisation; strategies for international construction/engineering marketing; human and cultural issues;

joint ventures and strategic alliances; legal issues and resolving disputes; and skill development in the context

of international management.

The course deals with the practical implementation of project decisions based on the assessment of risk. The

course aims to provide candidates with the necessary skills to make better decisions regarding the analysis and

management of risk in construction projects. The course information acts as a guide for practitioners managing

real projects. Topics include risk environment, understanding the human aspects to risk assessment, dealing

with uncertainty, quantitative methods for risk management and qualitative assessment for risk management.

Post Admission Process

The admission form will be examined by the admission

office Allama Iqbal Open University after receipt of merit list.

Admission office will process your application form and allot

you roll numbers and registration numbers. After about three

months you will be sent study material. In case you do not

receive any intimation after 90 days of sending of your

admission form you are advised to contact Post Graduate

Admission Section Bock No. 4, AIOU, Islamabad or the nearest

Regional office of the Allama Iqbal Open University.

The study period for autumn semester starts from

st December of each year and continues till May next year.

Similarly the study period for the admissions announced for

spring semester on 1st February every year starts from 1st June of

the same year and continues till November of the same year. The

mailing for autumn semester is completed by the end of

November and for spring semester by the end of May, each year.

and they are yet to qualify the courses of this semester. Thus they

cannot understand the very reason for enrolment in the next

semester. The reason is that the university has to arrange your

studies for the next semester in time. If it waits for declaration of

results of one semester before starting the next semester,

commencement of next semester would be delayed by three to

four months. Adding this delay up to four semesters the

university will not be in a position to complete your program in

the minimum prescribed limit of two years and it may be

extended up to four years. This is why the university asks for

admission in the next semester before conclusion of earlier

semester.
