Home Security in Forth Worth While on Vacation

Everyone deserves a vacation now and then, but no one deserves their home security to be threatened while they are away. An empty house can be an open invitation to intruders, unless you take the proper home security safety precautions to protect your house while you are away from Forth Worth, Raleigh, or whatever town you live in.

Going on vacation should be relaxing, fun, and stress free. There should be no need to worry about what is going on at home. You want to be able to enjoy the moment as much as you can without thinking about what is going on at home. Taking care of your house's home security before leaving is the best way to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Follow these safety precautions before heading out of town.

1. Let your neighbors know that you are going out of town. This way, they can keep an eye on your house and will know to look out for any suspicious activity while you are gone and can contact the authorities if need be.

2. Ask a neighbor or a friend to check in on the house a few times. Have them bring in the mail so it does not pile up in the mailbox, have them bring out the trash on trash day, and have them walk around just to make sure everything is OK. Especially if you have pets, you will want someone to come in to take care of them.

3. Stop your newspaper service, or have a friend or neighbor bring it in everyday. Newspaper piling up in your front yard is a clear sign that no one is home, inviting intruders to enter your house.

4. Leave a couple lights on both inside and outside of the house so that it is not completely dark at night. A dark house is also an indicator that no one is at home. You can put lights on timers or use motion sensors to save electricity.

5. If you are not driving to your vacation, leave your car parked (and locked) in your driveway. If you are taking your car with you, ask a neighbor to park one of their cars in your driveway. An empty driveway is another sign that implies an empty house.

6. If you are gone for a long period of time, you will want to ask someone to take care of your lawn. A covered walkway after a snowstorm will make it look like no one is at home, as will an overgrown lawn. Ask someone to shovel or mow your lawn for you, depending on the season.

7. Set your home alarm system. Being gone for such a long period of time, your home alarm system should be set the whole time you are away. Most systems will allow you to create temporary pin numbers which your friend or neighbor can use when they come in to check on the house and bring in the mail and the newspaper. You can also create pin numbers that can only be used during certain hours, or one time, which are perfect for any home services such as a housekeeper or repairmen.
