Fedor had amassed 31 wins with only one controversial loss over ten years ago where he was stopped by a cut on an illegal strike. MMA fans had considered the champ undefeated until Fabricio Werdum lured him into a submission where Fedor was caught. Both fighters were fresh as the stoppage came just 69 seconds into the fight.
Next up for Werdum is either a rematch with Fedor or a chance at the Strikeforce Heavyweight title against Alistair Overeem who seemed disappointed that he would not be fighting Fedor next. No official comment from the organizers who woudl be next matched up as Fedor only has one more fight on his contract.
Fabrcio Werdum revealed to TATAME.com that the rumored fight against Fedor Emelianenko will probably take place in April 16th. "The fight against Fedor is 99% confirmed to April 16th. I have three months to train to the most important fight of my life", Werdum said, confident in a victory. "I already have a strategy set. I can't submit a guy like Fedor in the arm, in the leg, he would never tap... I'll make history. Beat Fedor doesn't mean I'm better than him, because he's the man, but I'll be better than him in that night".
