subject: Pitfalls of hosting [print this page]

Any biz has both pleasant points and disillusions. Hosting providing business works the same. All positive moments, I think, are more or less known to those who wants to take advantage of its services. What disadvantages can hosting give us? Usually, to start using any hosting is the same as to take some risk. Indeed, we do not know how the company works, we can not know even what the situation is with the technical support and warrants of information saving. In general, we do not know anything. But you should be aware of this, and there are forums and independent virtual chat rooms could be our valuable helping hands. But, do not forget one thing: you never know why people give good or bad information, whether there are really independent opinions. They can be members of the company who specially can laud their services. And, backward, the competitors can easily say something untrue or exaggerate disadvantages about the services.

Let's talk about pitfalls of all kinds of hosting. Pitfalls are those unpleasant things which can blemish greatly our style and our site status in the web.

First, the most important factor of a damaged reputation can be the fact that your site is wrongly configured by a hosting provider, that is why it supposedly can be inaccessible for clients. It will affect your site image day after day, until it will lead to total site isolation, as no one will visit it. And, as a result, it will be to recover the image.

Secondly, due to incorrect server operation your site will be temporarily blocked, a plenty of people agreeably will not be able to visit it, chiefly, if your site is popular. Imagine, what losses you can have because of it. It will also greatly destroy your image.

Another case is more lucky than unlucky. It will strike on reputation of those whose sites aim to gather data. At times, though extremely rarely, there are cases of the strongest server failure which can lead to the whole information disappearing which was stored on a hard disk. Of course, experienced hosting providers can escape from this annoying misconception involved with loss of clients because someone will hardly like to remain the client of the given server.

Another point is payment of the hosting services. It can be either free or paid, it is a general idea. My belief is that any hosting is paid, but the sum is different.

With a free hosting you pay too much care on a proper site work. You pay by your time spending hours on speaking with hosting providers about non-satisfactory services. Then you pay by your nerves suffering from infinite conversations with a technical support. And by all means, you pay by the traffic for losing clients. As the result, you always have to pay the piper.

Paid hosting is not a way out either. Very often they give you the price for services which is false. It does not count taxes. If it were, no one would like the sum he/she should pay for hosting. But this is another story. I will tell you some other day. Have a nice day and be lucky in what you are doing.
