Should you keep your dog inside or give him or her a dog kennel

It's a question that many dog owners face. Keeping your animal inside is obviously great for security and to ensure that they stay warm when the weather is cold but many dogs actually like being outside. Although not as nocturnal as cats, they enjoy the freedom that spending a night outside the house can give them.

Dog kennels these days come in all shapes and sizes and finding the right one has never been easier. If your dog is particularly valuable or is prone to running away you might consider putting a dog run next to your dog kennel. This, as the name suggests, is a small area that is fenced off from the rest of the garden. These structures are usually collapsible and can be removed for storage if necessary. They fit onto almost all dog kennels, whatever their size and make.

They offer your dog the opportunity to run around a bit and to dig and scratch and go to the toilet but still to enjoy some degree of protection. If you're concerned about your dog getting into a fight with other dogs or if your own animal is particularly expensive, for instance, and you're anxious that it might be stolen these dog runs are a great way to give your dog freedom and exercise but to allow them to do it in a safe environment.

The urban fox, although normally frightened of dogs, can end up fighting with some smaller varieties and they have even been known to invade dog kennels and to try and make homes there. As well as grass, you can even use thick rubber matting on the base which makes cleaning easier and is particularly useful is you have a patio or paved garden which many dogs find very hard and do not normally like as much as grass or straw. A dog run is not expensive and it can be a great addition to
