Obesity Is Risky! Get Slimmer And Live Longer And Happier

In many parts of the world, obesity has traditionally been encouraged and regarded as a sign of good health. In such cultures or societies it is encouraged from infancy, where the overweight or obese child is seen as healthy and thriving well. Mothers are often concerned or worried when an infant or child is slim built or even having normal body weight. This results in overfeeding to ensure there is that ''fat and healthy baby'', and is often a reason for seeking medical advice and treatment.

It is therefore not surprising that obesity in those societies is not only encouraged but became synonymous with being healthy. Of no less significance is the fact that in such cultures obese women are deemed to be more attractive, fertile and having greater sex appeal.

But obesity in pregnancy predisposes the unborn child to obesity and increases the risks of fetal abnormalities and miscarriages. Obesity increases the likelihood of developing diabetes, hypertension and other medical disorders and also the risks of complications from previously existing ones. It is also of utmost importance to note that, obesity increases significantly the risks (both fetal and maternal) during labour and delivery and is a major contributing factor in perinatal and maternal deaths.

Obesity is a grave risk to health. It is well documented from medical researches that obesity significantly increases the chance of developing, cancers, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases like, high blood pressure(hypertension) and coronary heart diseases. It increases many times the risks of dying prematurely from cancers and the complications of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks , kidney failures and strokes.

Given the overwhelming evidence of the risks of excess body fat or obesity, it is crucial for people to maintain their ideal body weight and in cases of obesity to strip that fit and get slimmer to live healthier and longer.
