subject: 5 Tips On How To Avoid Losing Your Luggage [print this page]

I am sure you can enumerate a lot of travel hassles including delayed flight or wrong flight. But the one thing that can really put you in a bad mood is lost luggage. Your luggage can take a trip to another country and there is no way of knowing it beforehand.

You can prevent this from happening. I suggest using the following tips if you don't want this to happen when you are traveling:

1. Purchase a unique kind of luggage. The problem with most luggage bags today is that they look exactly alike. They pretty much have generic tags on them. It can get confusing for the Airline department that handles luggage sets.

If you are using a unique kind of luggage, handlers are keener in inspecting the details of the tag. It lessens the likelihood of lost luggage. If you can't find a unique luggage, you might want to give your current luggage a make-over. Use acrylic paint to give it a nice and attractive outer appearance.

2. Use big tags. Travel enthusiasts have suggested using thick lace or ribbons as tags. Bag handlers will pay attention more to the details on the tag. Secure the ribbon tightly to your bag. Make sure it will not accidentally fall off.

3. Write the complete details of your destination on the tag. Your name and contact number should also be present. Write them in bold prints and in noticeable colors so the bag handlers can easily read them. You might also want to print the flag of the country you are going to. This will prevent further confusion.

4. Just in case your bag really got on the wrong plane, you should have a plan B. Make sure you know the number of the Airline Company and the people you are going to approach if you want to retrieve your bag. You should also print copies of your destination and place it inside the bag. Just in case the tag got lost somewhere, there is still a spare copy inside the bag.

5. Keep the receipt of your checked luggage. This will serve as your proof that you have a checked luggage to claim.

Losing your luggage is such a huge hassle. More often than not, you can't do anything but wait for it to be sent back to you. When you are packing, make sure that you have secured your luggage properly. Place the necessary information on the tag. Also find out the rules and policies of the Airline for lost luggage.
