You might consider standing or painting your cabinets a lighter color or refacing them.
Even the color of the appliances should be considered, so if you are purchasing new ones go for the lighter colored ones and if yours are old and kind of banged up try painting them with appliance paint in light colors. You don't have to make everything in the kitchen the same color, but the colors should match and stay light and bright to make your tiny kitchen look bigger.
