Looking for recipes on the internet this Christmas is a great quick and easy method as more and more of us are moving away from conventional recipe books as the internet slowly but surely takes over the world. I wander how long it will be before we've all got flat screen computers built into our kitchen to help us cook as we go, well some of you may already have them.
Anyway, whilst searching for recipes online may be a quick and easy method, because there are so many recipe websites out there to choose from, the quality of the recipes can be hit and miss.
We've put together a list of our five favourite and easiest to use recipe websites to use this festive period for great reliable recipes.
1. Epicurious.com
Epicurious is a fantastic website which is linked to an American based subscription magazine of the same title. They have a huge range of recipes and a vibrant community of foodies who contribute to the content of the website. The great thing about epicurious is that not only does it have recipes it also has a great range of food and drink related articles, cookery videos and a range of experts to help you answer your questions. My only criticism of this website is that the recipes are mainly focused on a US market rather than an international market, so if you're British or Australian some of the measurements may confuse you. (However don't stress, use our free conversion tables here)
2. Allrecipes.com
All Recipes is a great international website which is actually made up of a network of individual websites for each country. The beauty of this is that it's really easy to find the recipes you're looking for, but what makes it great is that if you do want a recipe from a different country, it's also very easy to find them and convert the measurements using their conversion tool. They have a great community and a function on the website which allows you to save all of your recipes in a handy folder.
3. Food.com
Food.com was formerly known as recipe zaar.com, it is a huge US based food and drink website with tons of great recipes in a clean easy to use framework. The great thing about Food.com is that the advertising is less obvious that that of the above two websites and makes it a little easier to focus on what you're trying to look for. They also have a handy member's area where you can save all of your recipes in a personal binder, so they're easy to find. Their monthly newsletters are also very good and have great easy to understand recipes and great seasonal menu ideas.
4. BBC Good Food
This is a fantastic recipe website which is operated by the BBC and is based in the UK. It has a great range of recipes which have been fully tried and tested by both the staff and its users. The website is clean and colourful and adverts are kept to a minimum. The great thing about this website is that there are a huge selection of recipes provided by the many celebrity chefs who have or who have had cookery shows on the network, these are really high quality recipes which can be fully trusted. The website also has a similar function to all of the other websites where members can save all of their recipes into a handy recipe folder.
5. The Food Bible
How could we write a list of our favourite websites without including ourselves! This website has a great range of recipes, cocktail recipes and expert food and drink advice along with easy to follow cookery videos. The great thing about the food bible is that it appeals to an international audience with all of their recipes having their measurements in both metric and US formats. Although The Food Bible is still a young small website, they have allot to offer in the future and hope to become a big player in the online food and drink resource category. They have also been endorsed by Michelin star chef Hywel Jones, who has said that the website shows all the signs of becoming a big hit.
