Bet on Horses: Mother Goose Stakes Odds - June 26, 2010

Kentucky Derby winning trainer Todd Pletcher, who many regard as the top horseman in the United States today, will field 3 out of the 5 horse betting favorites in Saturday's Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes from Belmont Park. The Mother Goose is a mile and one sixteenth race for 3-year old fillies worth $250,000. Pletcher trained Devil May Care 6-5 is the favorite at online racebooks in horse betting odds followed by another Pletcher horse Ailalea at 3-1. Connie and Michael opened at 7-2 followed by Biofuel at 5-1 with Pletcher's Katy Now at 8-1.

Devil May Care is well rested having last run in the Kentucky Derby on May 1st where she finished 10th. Prior to that run with the colts, however, Devil May Care won 3 out of her 5 previous horse betting starts against fillies including the Grade 2 Bonnie MS on March 20 as well as a Grade 1 win at Belmont in the Frizette Stakes last October. Devil May Care will be mounted by one of the best in John Velazquez. Edgar Prado will get the ride aboard Ailalea. Kent Desormeaux will ride Katy Now, Rajiv Maragh will mount Connie and Michael, while Eurico Da Silva will be aboard Biofuel. As for running three of his fillies against each other Pletcher said, "In a perfect world I wouldn't run all these fillies in the same race against each other, as its not effective stable management from my perspective." He went on to say, "on the other hand, I think it's what the owners want to do, it's a Grade 1 race, its home, and those things are attractive." Pletcher has 2 previous Mother Goose wins at Belmont Park for his career. Aileya may also be a horse to consider as she is coming off a May 29 win at Churchill Downs in the Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes.
