In spite of glowing health reports it is highly likely that you have probably dreamed of being healthier at least once or twice. We have all felt, at least once or twice, like we need to eat better, choose wise and work out more often. It is important,when you think about these things, that you take action. If you really do want to get healthy you need to take steps to make that happen. Don't forget that your body is not the only thing you need to worry about if you truly want to get fit: the brain is involved as well. That said, here are a few things that you can do to increase your fitness.

Make good lifestyle choices. Stop smoking now. Pare down your booze. In addition to being terrible habits, smoking and drinking will only hinder your efforts to get fit and lead a healthier lifestyle. Not only is smoking awful for your body but it makes it far more difficult for you to complete a workout routine. Not only will drinking keep your energy levels low, it is terrible for your liver.

Beyond the damage they do to your body, alcoholic drinks are jam packed with empty calories. Shedding those excess calories could take up an entire day of working out! Why set yourself back those steps?

Get a personal trainer to help you. At this point you will have at least flirted with the idea of joining your local gym (or have possibly already joined). Lots of gyms have personal trainers on hand who can help you learn about fitness and help you put together a workout that you can use to get healthy. Your personal trainer will teach you how to use the machines and gym equipment, tell you which fitness classes you should take and help you decide just how much time you should be spending working out each day. Your personal trainer will also act as your own personal cheerleader. Beginning a workout routine can be intimidating. A great confidence booster is working with someone who is not only well versed in fitness but who is also very interested in seeing you succeed.

If you like a particular athletic activity--join in when it is played. Take a dance class for fun and fitness reasons! Water aerobics classes are also good. Hiking and rock climbing are also good. These are all activities that you can do to help yourself get fit while still having a lot of fun. You stand a better chance of getting fit if you have fun with your exercise routine. If you hate your fitness routine you will be more likely to make excuses to not do it. How productive is that? Why not have fun while you get fit? True fitness is a total body and mind state of being. You can go to the gym and exercise every day but if you don't work on improving the health in other areas of your life your fitness level won't improve. To really be fit you need to eat good food and make good lifestyle decisions. Obviously you still need to exercise regularly as well. To truly achieve a high level of fitness work with someone who knows what to do, be practical and practice common sense.
