First step is to cut the power or remove the A/C cable from the wall outlet or directly from the case. To discharge the charges within motherboard capacitors, compress and hold the power button key on the computer for some seconds.
Open the case of the computer to attain the optical drive. Remove the panel or case cover by employing a side panel sliding or a series of thumbscrews.
Within the computer case drive bays you can locate the optical drive. Search for the optical drive bays close to the top of the computer case. To reveal the optical drive slowly remove the wiring.
From the rear of the optical drive unplug the wiring. The wiring may look like a thin ATA cable or a ribbon cable. Take out the power cable (you can see the cable in multi color).
Take off the buttons that attach the optical drive to the system of rails in the case. Normally, they vary from four to eight Philips head screws carrying the drive in.
Move down the optical drive from the front of the computer case. Push gently the drive from the rear till you can catch a grip on the drive from the front. Later you can pull the drive out from the case.
In to the same drive tray insert a new optical drive, and continue the instructions in reverse to install the new optical drive.
Caution
While working inside the computer case or handling computer components try to prevent static electricity. To discharge static energy you can touch the inside of the case once opened.
