Coupons for the Internet? How to Save Money Online

With the economy the way it is, everyone is looking to save money with coupons, but did you know that you can actually use a coupon on the Internet. People want to save and find a bargain, even online. How do bargain hunters manage to save even when shopping on the Web?

Coupons Replaced by Promo Codes

While paper coupons still exist, it won't be long before you find all your coupons online and not in a newspaper. Companies like Verizon, Snapfish, and Redbox have initiated the trend and soon others will follow.

Instead of carting around all your coupons, all you need to do is access your computer or cell phone for that matter. More and more companies are putting coupons online for anyone to retrieve. While some of them are in the form of printable coupons, most consist of a code you type in at the time of checkout.

From Newspapers to Cell Phones

As mentioned earlier, you no longer need a newspaper to get valuable coupons. Now the coupons can be accessed via the Internet on your cell phone or through a text message.

That's right. Some video and prescription companies want you to sign up for coupons via text messaging. When you do they will send out coupons for the medication you take or the videos you watch. One company will send out periodic free movie rentals via text message and if you join their Facebook site, you get even more offers.

How to Activate a Coupon Code

Activation can occur in one of two ways. You either enter the code manually or you click the code.

Entering the code manually:

When you find a promo code you like, write it down.

oThe code can be in the form of words, numbers, or both.

oBe sure to write it down exactly, as these usually are case sensitive

Go to the manufacturer's website and start shopping

When you are done shopping, click checkout

Generally, you enter the code at the bottom of the checkout page. You should find a box that will say something like "Promotion Code" or "Enter Coupon Code Here."

Click Apply or Submit

Check the total to make sure the code was entered correctly and was accepted

Clicking the code:

Sometimes when you find a code it is clickable.

oThe code will say something like "Click Here" or "Coupon" and you will click on the code itself.

oClicking the code takes you to the appropriate website.

When you finish shopping, make sure you have gotten the promised discount.

oThe code should have already been added, but you may have to click submit or apply.

Why Won't the Code Work

The most common reason that a code does not work is because the code has expired. You should always check the expiration date on codes before you try to apply them. Almost all codes are offered for a limited time. When searching on the Internet, you may find codes that are expired and not be able to utilize them when you shop.
