Nowhere do more people make mistakes than when it comes to buying a new car. Often times, people are swayed by the "deals" that car manufacturers offer. For instance, just today, I received an offer by mail for $1,000 off the purchase of a brand new Jeep from a local Jeep dealership. There was no small print to be seen on this particular flyer, but the red flags were definitely up.
Flyers like these are often used as a way to get people to come down to that particular dealership to look at cars. Then, once there, the salespeople can begin to work their magic on a particular customer to see if he or she can't get them to purchase a brand new car. While not all car sales people are unscrupulous, those are interested in purchasing a brand new car need to make sure that they do their research on the kind of car that they want prior to going to the dealership.
If you are the type of person who prefers to see a vehicle in person in order to browse around first before making a decision, perhaps you should try going to a dealership before or after closing hours so that you can walk through all of the vehicles on the parking lot without having to worry about being hassled by a car salesperson. The car buying process is a lot like an awkward dance between the buyer and the sales person. On the one hand, the sales person wants to be able to sell you the most expensive, newest car possible because he or she receives a certain percentage of each sale that they close. Therefore, the higher the price tag, the more money he or she makes. Often, these sales people do not have your best interest in mind, which is why you need to do your own research to know what you want. Going to a dealership as a more informed person also helps you because it allows you to tell if the information being presented to you is truthful or not.
Choose new vehicles that have received excellent reviews and ratings in safety as well as other features that are important to you. But most importantly, make sure that you know your budget and that you choose cars that are well under your budget in order to avoid financial problems in the future.
