Who should take Vitamin supplements?

Not everyone needs to take vitamin supplements. If you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle and eating right, it's usually not necessary to supplement your diet with vitamins. However, if you are lacking in any particular vitamin, you can take a vitamin supplement for it.

Our body requires a minimum amount of certain vitamins to maintain your body systems and fight off diseases. In our busy lives, we don't always make time to eat properly, and we're often tempted by that fast food joint on our way home.

Some groups of people may benefit from vitamin supplements depending on their gender, health, or age:

* Pregnant woman: folic acid and a prenatal vitamin that includes iron

* The Elderly (over 50 years old: vitamin B12 and vitamin D

* Vegans or Vegetarians: vitamin B12, iron, zinc, calcium, vitamin D.

Many vitamin supplements are available for different people so read the label before purchasing. Don't give an Adult Multi-vitamin to a kid or elderly relative, and likewise, don't take a children's vitamin if you are an adult. Make sure the supplement you are taking is appropriate for your age, gender and health. Consult your pharmacist, doctor, or naturopath if you have any questions.

As with prescription medications, it's best to consult your doctor who can, based on your medical history and current health, recommend what vitamin supplements you may need. When purchasing these from an online Canadian pharmacy, look for a Drug Identification Number (DIN) or Natural Product Number (NPN) on the product to help ensure it's been approved and meets Health Canada Standards.

Ideally your recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals should be through natural sources (like fruits, vegetables, and dairy) but we all know we can't always eat healthy 100% of the time. Supplements should not be used as a replacement for eating healthy. Vitamin supplements can only supplement other sources, to help increase your health and well-being.

You can purchase vitamin supplements from an online pharmacy, and often without a prescription. Do some research and find a reputable online Canadian pharmacy for you and your family. You will not only get access to cheaper drugs and vitamins, have the added convenience of having them delivered directly to your door, but you'll have a happier, healthier family too!
