The Sony Bravia KDL40W5500 TV - Our View Of It

The Sony KDL40W5500 LCD TV was one of the most highly-anticipated liquid crystal display televisions of the spring of 2009, and for good reason. This is because this particular Sony, offered by one of the world's most popular makers of high-quality consumer electronics, is extremely capable and a well-regarded member of the Bravia line of Sony televisions.

This Sony itself is meant to be a replacement for the predecessor W4500 line of Bravia televisions and there are a number of features and functions that have been upgraded and improved as well as added to. For example, it now features the proprietary Sony Applicast and one additional HDMI port, making for a total of four. In addition, Sony has thoughtfully included the new Bravia Engine 3 technology suite to go along.

After looking at all of the above in a clinical eye, it's easy to see why this 40 inch LCD TV combines a great deal of capability and quality along with a relatively low price tag of 700 British pounds. Be warned, however; there are other retailers out there selling this TV for about 900 British pounds, so take some time to search carefully to get the best price.

Like most recent Bravia TVs from Sony, it makes use of certain design cues that the company refers to as "Draw the Line." There is a nicely fashioned exterior black casing that is highly polished and divided down near the speaker grills by a subtle bar that separates those speakers from the black bezel that surrounds the display screen. In all, it looks very stylish and handsome.

The separate stand that comes with this particular model is also nice in that it is made to swivel about with ease. For those who tire of moving television about in order to give others watching it for better viewing environment, being able to grasp the TV and just swivel it around will come as no small pleasure, and is one that is more popular than people might think.

When it comes to the technology suite offered in this Sony, there are those four total HDMI ports as well as two USB 2.0 ports and a LAN port to go with separate digital and analog audio outs. Combined together, this means that the television will be extremely easy to interface with most components as well as a personal computer network to help the display video files and JPEG files.

Sony is legendary for the quality of its picture display and this one will not disappoint in the way its blacks and colors are put on the screen. It also makes use of a 100 MHz motion control engine that helps to greatly reduce any blurring or artifacts left after the action on the screen has moved on. Most video enthusiasts greatly appreciate this particular function as well.

Appreciating the Sony KDL40W5500 for what it is becomes almost second nature after just a few minutes of playing around with the television. Sony has really done yeoman work in upgrading quality and features throughout as well as delivering to the market a television that is very nicely priced for the UK market. In all, there is a great deal to like about this particular Bravia and almost nothing whatsoever to take issue with.
