subject: Bad Consequences Of School Uniforms [print this page]

While many people all tout the praises of school uniforms, there are some serious considerations to take into account. Just because there are some bad aspects of uniforms does not make them entirely bad, however they do need to be considered so that an acceptable solution can be arranged that everyone is able to live with happily.

One of the biggest arguments against school uniforms is that they prevent children from developing their own sense of style and actually expressing it. This can be a good thing in school where the primary focus should be learning, but it can stifle some creativity when the are all forced to wear the same clothing. In order to balance this as much as possible, still providing children with a wide range of clothing choices is the best thing that you can do, but still ensure that they are dressed appropriately for school.

There are some other negative impacts of school uniforms though, and that includes the fact that many people claim that the uniforms are quite uncomfortable. Because of the fabric that the uniforms are made from, there are many that question how comfortable they really are. In order to really improve upon this, only the highest quality uniforms should be purchased. These tend to have much softer fabrics, and will be much more comfortable on those long school days.

Many do think that uniforms are more expensive than typical school clothes though. While this is true for some brands, there are many affordable options that do exist, and this makes it much easier for consumers to find the uniforms that fit into their requirements, while still spending only a reasonable amount of money.

For many people, it is also a huge problem school uniforms do not allow students to express their own creative style. This can be one of the biggest problems with uniforms and often is the concern that is most vocal amongst those who are not impressed or thrilled by the usage of uniforms. By restricting jewelry, makeup, clothing and even footwear, many schools are reducing the ability for students to express themselves, and some are even going as far as restricting the things that students are allowed to do with their hair.

As you can see, there are several good reasons why perhaps school uniforms are not the best idea, but with a bit of dialog with those who are unhappy and a bit of time spent reviewing all of the options, it is possible to still get the right outcome that you are looking for, while still making as many people as possible happy.

Considering the overall reasons that many people are either for or against school uniforms, it is possible that the debate will continue to rage on. However, for many schools, the uniforms are seen as a huge benefit, and they are not going to be disappearing any time soon. It is simply up to parents to select a school that does not require uniforms if they are completely opposed to their usage.
