There are 2 famous processions in Sorrento and many brotherhoods. The processions are the one know as"dell'Addolorata" and the other one is the procession of the Dead Christ (il Cristo morto).
The procession know as "dell'Addolorata":
The procession know as "dell'Addolorata" takes place during the darkness of night, in the early hours of Good Friday with return to the church at the first glimmers of dawn. The participants and the brothers wear a white tunic gathered at the waist by a black belt. The face of the participants is capped, a sign of the penitential nature of the procession. In addition to the symbols of the martyrdom of Christ, is carried by the brothers statue of Our Lady of Sorrows (Madonna Addolorata).
The procession of the dead Christ:
The procession of the dead Christ is held in the evening, parading through the streets, and the faithful carry on their shoulders the statue of Christ dead and buried. Also in this procession are exalted the "martyrs" of Christ, as the nails of the cross, the spear that pierced him to the chest, the thirty pieces of silver which brought Judas to betray him. These symbols are the highlighted, once again, by the elimination of the identity of the masked participants, wearing a black robe.
