subject: Why Smoking Should Never Be Used As a Tool For Weight Loss [print this page] It's a sad fact that those who are desperate enough to lose weight can often resort to what I would deem as being extreme measures by taking up the incredibly unhealthy habit of smoking in the hope that it will help them in their quest to slim down fast, which unfortunately, some studies to a certain extent, suggest may be true. These studies show that: The nicotine contained in a cigarette will act as a hunger suppressant and affect the appetite. Smoking can burn up to two hundred calories per day if you are a heavy smoker. Smoking speeds up the metabolism, enabling the body to burn more calories and therefore help with weight loss. But cigarettes contain tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide, tobacco and many other poisonous chemicals, so any benefits you may reap for weight loss through smoking, will always be far outweighed by the many serious health risks that you will be exposing yourself to, some of which are, Emphysema and Bronchitis, both of which are chronic lung conditions Robbing your body of calcium which could possibly induce osteoporosis in women later on in life. Cancers of the lung, esophagus, throat, stomach, colon and more. Coronary heart disease. Strokes. Smokers cough. Stress, leading on to High blood pressure, and many, many more. Your breathing will also be affected, meaning that you won't be able to join in with as many physical activities as you would like, and your health in general will suffer. I've heard that nicotine is more addictive than Heroin so one should also consider the fact that once you are hooked, smoking will be an extremely hard habit to give up. It won't be a simple fact of "oh I'll just smoke until I've lost some weight, then I'll give it up" it will be a lot harder than that. Even if you are able to successfully stop smoking, guess what happens then....you will somehow find the weight you lost, so just don't even go there in the first place. Is it really worth risking your quality of life, or maybe even your life itself just to lose a few pounds in weight? I sincerely hope not, especially when you can achieve your weight loss goals with a healthy balanced diet and moderate exercise. Anyone who is still willing to take the risk of being ill and start smoking in the hope of losing weight to help them look good, should also consider these facts. Smoking will discolour your teeth, your fingers, and even your hair. will make your body and your breath smell like an ashtray. plays a major part in bringing early wrinkles to your face. all of which will not only do nothing to improve one's appearance, but will go a long way into doing just the opposite, so in conclusion, although you may lose a little weight by smoking, it would be a bitter pill to swallow if you were to became ill and smell like an ashtray in the process. There are other good reasons not to smoke as well, one being for the sake of your loved ones and another, is if you are pregnant. Both of these could open up a whole new can of worms. I am passionate about reaching out and helping others with weight issues on my website http://www.slimmingsolved.com where you will find lots of FREE info on how to lose weight the healthy way. Hopefully, reading some of these facts will deter anyone who may be considering taking up the habit, and as an ex-smoker myself, I can honestly tell you that it really isn't worth the risk. Good Health to all.
