Your Behaviour on Facebook Could Be Killing Your Business

It's not really how many friends you have on Facebook, it's more about how you interact with those friends you are meeting on Social Networking sites. Facebook, the largest Social site with 400 million users and if used correctly you will generate hundreds if not thousands of loyal subscribers. These are a few of my major gripes of bad behaviours' on Facebook that could be killing your business.

Mistake #1

When making a new friend on Facebook, don't just click the add friend button. These people will just add you as a friend and in the majority of cases you will never speak to them again.

The Fix!

This is what you should be doing when you add a friend. Send a quick message to them introducing yourself. Have a quick look at their profile and see what their interests are. You could make a comment and let them know you like their profile picture and perhaps ask them where it was taken. Be warm!

Mistake #2

Don't send your new friend a link when you are introducing yourself, this is the fastest way to turn your new friend off you and is regarded as spam. Remember, you are trying to attract people to you, not turn them away from you.

The Fix!

Once they have accepted your friend request, you are then open to asking them about their business, i.e. how's it going for them. Depending on your niche, you could ask them their favourite way to generate leads into their business. This is sure to start up a conversation which in most cases will lead to ongoing communication.

Mistake #3

Don't assume that you know more than your new friend. They may have been online a lot longer than you and they may also be more educated than you in internet marketing. One of the worst things that a new friend has said to me is "I run an internet marketing business from home, if you need my help just ask" Now you might think this is being polite and helpful. Many people can also be insulted by this. What makes you think your new friend would even need your help?

The Fix!

I use this method. I usually ask if they have a blog where I could connect with them and learn more about them. This way you can find out more about their business their family and how they got started online. This is showing your new friend that you have interest in them and you want to know more about them. Follow their blog, and then get back to them and let them know that you visited and you are impressed by their content. You will then find once you have shown interests in them they will want to know more about you too.

Mistake #4

On your first meeting don't spam their Facebook wall with your business link. This is also classified as spam. You might as well just glue your business card to your head (how do you think that makes you look) if this is the way you are going to choose to do business on social networking sites. Professionals on Facebook will think just the same of you when you spam their wall.

The Fix!

Start a Facebook group and invite your friends to this group. Those that are interested in you will join you. This is where you can send them to your links, but before you do start giving them some really good value. Teach them a few things you have learnt online that can perhaps help them in their business. Everyone is always looking for great tips and how to's.

When you start using a few of "The Fixes" I have shown you here, you will start getting a great response from people and they won't just be faces on your wall that you spam all day long and that you will never know.

Seriously, social networking is a great way to get more leads into your business and it's also free, but you must treat these new friends like you would in the offline world. When you are networki
