Tips for Household Cleaning

There are some real annoyances that make our lives difficult, and take lots of time to rectify. But with these tips you may just find that they take a lot less time to rectify.

If you get chewing gum stuck to an item of clothing, rub ice on the gum to freeze it and then try to scrape the gum off with a butter knife. If this doesn't work, heat the gum with a hairdryer and try to peel it off. You can also try rubbing a deep heat rub and then hair drying, to make it hotter. Once the gum has lifted, wash the item.

If you have managed to get salad dressing, hand cream or any other greasy substance on your clothes, rub laundry detergent straight onto the stain, and then ash the item in as hot water as it can take.

If you have grease on the sofa, cover it in talcum powder and then vacuum it off. If it is still there, dab on some meths.

Tomato ketchup, a great accompaniment for chips, is not such a great partner to white clothes. Scrape as much of it off as you can, and then blot with soda water. Rinse with a clean cloth or clean water to lift the remnants of the stain.

A great tip for tea or coffee stains is to fill a bucket with hot water and add a denture tablet. Leave overnight and rub. This also works if the stain is on the cup!

Make sure that you have a valid Home Insurance policy.
