The time has come at last. Apple fanboys and fangirls can breathe a sigh of relief, as their dreams of getting their steamy little mitts on the latest iPhone have been made real.
I'm not what you'd consider an Apple fanboy at all, but that's not the reason I'm not going to be making a mad dash to get the company's latest gadget.
The all-new, all-fabulous iPhone 4 has been around for only a short while, but already reports of its flaws are coming fast and furious over the Internet. Every place from forums to technology websites are commenting on the design flaws in this latest iPhone model.
Here are just a few of the complaints, so far:
Touching the antenna band results in loss of reception
So you're thinking, "No big deal. I just won't touch the antenna band." Good luck. You're touching the antenna band when you're holding the phone comfortably.
Strange yellow stains on the front or back glass panels
This appears to be due to a problem with the bonding agent used on the panels. Apparently, Apple is aware of this problem, as some users are reporting that when they contacted Apple about the stains, they were offered a replacement immediately no questions asked.
The glass housing is not especially shatterproof
Okay, it's not shatterproof at all. Many people are reporting that when they dropped their iPhone (most accidentally, a few on purpose for testing), the spiffy glass housing shattered likewellglass. Whose idea was it to employ a glass casing on such a frequently used and abused gadget? The operative word here is "glass", one of the most fragile materials known to man.
Sure, all these negative evaluations may be part of a big conspiracy to soil the good name of Apple, but it hardly seems likely. What this appears to be is a case of a company rushing to release a product and not caring if it's especially usable or convenient for the person who's shelling out upwards of 500 or so in the UK.
So the question you have to ask yourself is this: are you willing to sacrifice usability and convenience in order to simply follow the herd that dutifully queues up for anything Jobs and company spew out?
