Valance sheets are often called dust ruffles or bed skirts. They cover the bottom of the bed, i.e. from the floot to the mattress. You might have seen them in a hotel you have stayed in or a bed and breakfast.
The sheets cover the entire skirt of the bed so there is no gap between the bottom of the bed (mattress) to the floor. This means that dust is less likely to get under the bed. This is why they can be called dust ruffles. Less dust under the bed means that you don't have to spend so much time cleaning which is great in today's busy world. Many of the hotels have them for this reason.
There is a further advantage of having valance sheets as well. Who else has problems with storage in their homes? Yes many of us do. Many of us try and create extra space by putting things under the bed. While this is a good use of space, it can look ugly. Your valance sheets will hide the mess for you. You no longer need to be embarrassed by the state under your bed.
Getting a valance sheet for the first time will make a big impact to the room. All you have to do to give your bedroom some freshing up is change the sheets. It makes it quite simple to alter the appearance of your bedroom without requiring a costly makeover... just change your sheets!
