subject: A Healthy Employee Is A Happy Employee [print this page]

As long as you are paying for your health insurance policy you might as well know what kinds of benefits come along with the policy so that you can take advantage of them. You will probably be surprised to see how much you are eligible for and save yourself a lot of money in the long run. Make sure you make the most of every benefit that you are eligible for in your health plan or your are just throwing money away, especially when it comes to extra benefits such as dental and vision insurance that often go overlooked in you health plan.

Most people buy health care insurance for the standard benefits and don't often look into the extra bonuses and features that come along with the policy. There are even benefits in most policies that are designed to promote a healthier lifestyle along with the benefits that are their for medical and emergency treatments. You might even be able to get a gym membership through your policy that is paid for by the health plan if it was paid for by your employer.

Some of these benefits that may be included in your health insurance policy can include things like reimbursement for your gym membership or reimbursement for healthier foods and yoga classes. In an attempt to make individuals focus more on health insurance companies are now trying to reward individuals for healthy lifestyle changes. This is also the reason why many companies now incorporate a health risk assessment program into their policy as well. A health risk assessment helps to raise awareness about health and provide individuals with the motivation they need to get and stay healthy.

The health care policies are not always limited to the employees themselves. Sometimes they extend to the rest of the family as well. You might be able to sign your kids up for little league or other sports activities that are increasing in cost every year. Vitamin supplements are another option. A healthy employee is a good employee and most viable companies see things that way.

As long as everything is paid for by your policy you are only doing yourself and possibly even your family a large favor by reading through your policy and not only keeping track of things you might need in case of emergency, but check off the smaller things that promote a healthy lifestyle. Insurance doesn't have to be there only in bad times.
