HTC Wildfire - Androids on the March

HTC Wildfire is a smartphone released by HTC this year and it is not just casual smartphone, many reviewers and experts see it is a beginning of a new era for Android-bases smartphones. This phone is a rare combination of low price and great functionality plus good looks, and while it has its drawbacks they can hardly beat the overall positive impression.

The Bad

Unlike most of the reviews we will start with the few drawbacks of this phone. HTC Wildfire has basically only one drawback a budget screen. It is the price or the low cost of the model and there is nothing to do about it, something had to be sacrificed to make the first messiah of cheap and functional Android smartphones. Nevertheless the screen looks good while and the difference is seen only when compared to more expensive models. As for the rest of the issues, some people might think that the CPU and RAM combination is not as impressive as in HTC Desire, but it manages to do all the same things, except for maybe HD video related operations.

The Good

As for the good things there are like few dozens of them, both on the software and hardware side. The inner core of this phone is the acclaimed HTC Sense user interface and in case of HTC Wildfire it was not simply added, it was really improved. The interface itself supports the latest version of Android which is a huge bonus for the functionality. In addition to this the prone has all the apps from Desire plus the App Share, an app that eases up the process of exchanging applications with your friends, and another app that allows forming a single stream of updates from your contacts.

The hardware combo is nearly half of the HTC Desire, but it is highly optimized and allows performing the same tasks without any slowdowns. Of course the phone is initially limited for any type of development by its hardware, but for such price and at the current moment it has the best functionality on the market. All other not-too-expensive models just loose compared with HTC Desire. On the outside it looks like a smaller copy of another HTC model HTC Desire, but while Desire is a hi-end phone Wildfire is a budget oriented model, so the looks are also there! Another inheritance from the expensive Desire is the 5 Megapixel Camera, a rare thing among cheap smartphone models. The inside memory is extendable with an up to 32 GB microSD card exchangeable in hot mode (which was not possible in Desire).

Verdict

HTC Wildfire is really a phone for the people, even the name of the model was chosen in a Facebook poll. It was originally supposed to be unique and available to most of the possible buyers. And the sales of HTC Wildfire proved it; the model eventually pushed Android-based phones on top of the market, by granting them the biggest share.
