New Farm is located 2 km from the Brisbane CBD partially surrounded by the Brisbane River. A population of 11,244 with an average age of 37.

New Farm can be accessed by neighbours Fortitude Valley and Newstead. New Farm was originally founded as a Farm to supply the convict settlement, hence where it received its name. At the south end of New Farm overlooking the Brisbane River is the New Farm Park, boasting tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts and the Powerhouse arts centre. Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month the Farmers Markets are held at the Brisbane Powerhouse Centre for the Arts.

New Farm also has its own library on Sydney Street, providing internet access, photocopier and book hire. Two schools are also in the district the New Farm State School and the Holy Spirit School. Brunswick Street is the main street running through New Farm and into Fortitude Valley ending in Bowen Hills in the centre is the Brunswick Street Mall. The Brunswick Street Mall hosts cafes, shops, restaurants, take-away, bars and clubs. Merthyr Village and James Street shopping precincts are also nearby. There are many options for transport in New Farm; you can travel by Ferry from New Farm Park or from Sydney Street. Several Bus routes are located throughout the area and are within short walking distance.
