World of Warcraft Has Changed Everything

As with many innovations and new crazes online gaming was once believed, by some, to be just a flash in the pan. With the creation of the first MMORPGs however it was clear that online gaming was here to stay. MMORPG simply refers to a massively multi-player online role playing game. The games themselves use the very latest gaming technologies to create a truly immersive experience that is unequalled in game play. The MMORPG phenomenon, especially World of Warcraft, took the world by storm and at one point the player count was doubling every year. It was WoW that quickly established itself as the market leader and since it reached the number 1 spot it has never fallen off.

Once it was believed that World of Warcraft would reach a staggering 200 million players because of its explosive growth. Nowadays WoW has to settle for 11,000,000 active players at any one time.

That means that there are 11,000,000 in an online world that obey the specific rules of that world, interact with each other as you would in the real world and who develop professions, trade items and equipment, buy things and learn new skills - all in a virtual online world!

The virtual world of WoW can be very addictive to many players. In severe cases addicted players has sat in front of their computer screen playing WoW for days at a time even falling asleep in front of their computers.

When addiction to a computer game (or anything else for that matter) takes over it can have disastrous effects on relationships. Marriages can break down and even crumble.

It is true that WoW, along with other online games, is responsible for break-ups. However, the opposite is also true! Many people have formed great friendships, lasting relationships and even been married as a result of meeting in the online environment offered by World of Warcraft.

There are people who fear that computer gaming can adversely affect the user. Many others point to the evidence that sustained computer gaming can lower IQ.

Having said that, it has been clearly shown that World of Warcraft, when played at the higher levels, teaches players skills that are highly desirable to employers. Team building, crowd sourcing, social interaction, people management and more are all obtained through playing WoW and joining its guilds.

The team skills developed from playing world of warcraft are the very skills that employers look for in potential employees. When higher ranks in guilds are reached the skills acquired to manage a guild successful are the very skills taught in high end managerial courses.
