Achieving Your Goals - It Doesn't Have to be a Mystery

When I was around 8 years old I thought I had my life all planned out. I'd be married by the time I was 25, I'd be at least 5'9" and I'd be best friends with Madonna. I'm 30 years old now and while I am married (though not at 25), I'm nowhere close to being super model-sized and Madonna has never returned my calls.

One of out three isn't bad, right? And thankfully it's the one that really counts.

Of course at 8 years old I didn't know the importance of setting life goals; I just knew what I liked and left it up to fate to make it happen. In reality life just doesn't work that way.

We can set as many goals as we like but if we don't get off out butts and move towards that goal, we can forget ever getting near it let alone achieving it.

Wherever your ambitions lay, be it career, love or financial aims, the path towards it is essentially the same.

Let's take my childhood goals and see where I could have made strides forward. Wanting to be friends with Madonna may sound ridiculous but wanting a million dollars or losing 50 pounds can sound equally out of reach to a lot of people too.

So would I go about being pals with that 80's icon? Well, I could have written her a letter stating my intentions. Nowadays I would make some sort of tribute video on youtube for her, hoping she'll see it and want to meet me. I could also have applied to work as her assistant. It doesn't matter what route you take, the important thing is to take a route.

Now, as to growing to reach 5'9"... That's a bit trickier, I'll admit. If I was determined to reach that height then I would endure wearing 4-inch heels just to give the illusion that I was much taller than I am. Thankfully they now make really high heeled shoes that are not as uncomfortable as you might think. Remember that in trying to reach your goals, some hard work may be involved. Some things in life do come easy but that isn't always the case.

Lastly, my dream of being married at 25. That I did do (sort of). Although I wasn't actively looking for a partner, I made an effort to make myself always presentable and pleasant; After all you never know when you might meet "the One." Setting your goals is an active step but achieving them doesn't necessarily have to be. By simply having it always in the back of your mind, you'll move yourself toward it unconsciously.

Whatever your goals is, keep in mind that nothing is impossible. But remember that it's up to you to make it happen.
