subject: How High Do You Need To Jump To Dunk [print this page] Hello everybody, this is Jacob Hiller with Jump Manual. I just realize something, speaking to a friend of mine. We're talking about people who are 6' or who are 5'10 or above or whatever and terrible Dunker. What people aren't aware of is that what's really important isn't how tall you are or how tall somebody is. What's really important is 1.) What's the reaches? I mean, obviously how high they jump but I mean, you're considering 'Is a person a good jumper because they can dunk and you're 5'10 or a good jumper 'cause they can dunk and they're 6' tall?' Well, one of the first thing to realize is that 'reach different quitely from person to person for example I'd go to gyms and I will dunk and I will always have some dives like 5'9, 5'10 be like 2 to 5 moves. If I were a 6 foot 3 or 4 I will be doing the same thing and then we'd reach up in the air and turns out they had an inch of ring shot. So, what's really important is the reach, my reach is about, it's just under 8' so I can stand reach as high as I can and almost touch 8' and so when someone says they're 5'9 or 5'8 or whatever it is what we really want to understand is what's their standing reach or what's your standing reach. I've had a lot of people come to me and say 'hey I'm 6', how much do I need to dunk?' well what you really need to tell me is what's your standing reach so you can measure what's the highest point you can touch if you reach up as high as you can. Don't cheat yourself, try to really stretch out because you want to really know what kind of murder called its gonna take for you to be able to dunk. So, when I was in Ghana I realized everybody had enormous reach. I mean, I'm 6'3, 6'4 it's pretty tall but I'm several inches the neck and my reach is just very good I've got these flat hands and my reach is definitely under 6'3 so it's probably about 6', my wings made or something. All these guys in Ghana that was all the more they all had 3-6 inches on me in the reach so that's what you wanna know for yourself. If there's someone says they're 6' and they can dunk, what's the reach? You wanna know how many inches it's gonna take for you to dunk? what's the reach? I mean, wing span is a pretty wide spread you can makes your wing span in the NBA people wanna know of people's standing reach like John Wall who's what? 6', 6'1 he's got a 6'9 reach. Vince Carter, standing reach I believe is like over 9', 9'6 and it's all in the scaring reports on me. Basically, if you really need to dunk yet standing our reach is about 8' it takes me 24 inches to touch the rim and it takes me about 30 inches to put a dunk. Vince Carter who can reach about 9'6 takes about 6 inch jump. I'm gonna take you away from this dunk style from the air he gets a very vertical and amazing body so this gave me an idea to takes me about 12 inches to dunk. So, measure your reach and I'm gonna tell you what you gonna need to dunk. Most people that's gonna be about 6 inches over the rims what can take for you to dunk because if you stop the whole ball in your tip of your palm of the ball and get the whole ball to direct here that's where you need it so that's 4-6 inches above the rim then you can put down some weak one handed dunks. Anyways, just thought I'd give you some information about them. I mean for a lot of few or less its pretty obvious but I have so many people who were like I'm 6', I'm 5'11, I'm 5'10, what's it gonna take for me to dunk? Well, what's your standing reach? Let me know that and then we can figure out just about what's it gonna take you to dunk. Hope that was informative and I will talk to you soon.
