A Deep Fried Turkey an Alternative To Baking One

I have a suggestion for you. Why not try and deep fry a turkey some time thru the holidays. Many do this and it takes a fraction of the time of cooking in the oven. What you need of course is a deep fryer to deep fry a turkey. You can buy a kit all in one. It doesn't take a lot to buy one. And are not hard to find in many stores.the only added thing you will need to buy if you don't have already is a propane tank and meat thermometer.

You will need a propane tank also. The kit will include the burner unit, the pot and rack used to lift and lower the turkey into the pot and a candy thermometer. It will be used to keep a watch on your temperature of the oil in the pot of oil. You will have to be outside always when using this kit. Never inside your house.

Once you get your turkey deep frying do not leave it. Stay with it until it is finished cooking. An average turkey will take about thirty to forty minutes. Many use peanut oil to fry their turkey in. That is great and works fine. But you can use other types oil as well.just use one that will not smoke and catch fire once it gets hot. Vegetable oil works fine and there are others as well. Read up to insure yourself it will not catch fire. You will have to start with a dry turkey. You do not want it wet in any way. Never put a wet or even worse a frozen turkey into the oil. It can explode. You will want to cook at about 350 degres. keep in mind to bring the temperature of your oil slow and it will drop down when you lower the turkey int it.

Keep everybody away from theboiling pot so it won't burn you or anything else andbe sureit won't tip over. Make sure it is level. Once it'sdone and you remove it from the pot check the internal temperature to be sure it is done. You are striving for 165 degrees. Like most things you cook it will continue to cook for a short time once it's removed from the fire or oil in this case. So you will want to leave it on a platter or a large plate for about fifteen minutes. Using a small meat thermometer will insure you have reached the best and finished turkey temperature.
