Diabetes is condition when there is high blood sugar level in the blood. Diabetes is chronic meaning lifelong disease. Diabetes is now a very common disease. Diabetes is mainly classified into two types type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Understanding type 1 diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is a condition when the pancreas stops secreting insulin. This stop in production of pancreas is mainly due to autoimmune system of the human body. The autoimmune system destroys the insulin secreting cells i.e. the beta cells of the pancreas. Type 1 is commonly known as Juvenile diabetes.
Understanding type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is defined as a condition when the insulin produced is not sufficient for the body or the receptors of the cells do not react with insulin produced. Type 2 diabetes is seen more in people who are above age of 40 years. It is also known as adult onset diabetes.
The main cause of either of the diabetes is changes in lifestyle. Sedentary or stagnated lifestyle leads to diabetes. It not only leads to diabetes but also Obesity. Obesity is one among the major causes of diabetes. In other causes lack of balanced diet and genes are blamed.
The other type of diabetes is gestational diabetes. Which is to women and occurs to them during the period of pregnancy. It may last only for a short interval up to the delivery, if proper care is taken. Other wise it develops to type 2 diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes are at a risk of having large babies.
Diabetes is not partial with gender. It affects gender equally. Eating of sweet in huge quantities doesn't lead to diabetes.
The major signs and symptoms of diabetes are increased thirst and urination, increased appetite, unexplained weight loss or gain, blurry vision.
Generally diagnosis of diabetes is by two tests Urine and blood test. Urine test reveals glucose content in urine and blood test is mainly of three types , in all the three types the blood glucose levels is generally above normal levels.
Type 1 diabetes persons are given insulin injection. These doses are generally 4 to 5 times a day as prescribed by the doctor. Type 2 diabetes can be avoided and can be treated if the diabetic person involve in physical activities.
