subject: How To Do Your Laundry Without Consuming A Lot Of Water And Energy [print this page]

The laundry industry has recognized the need for efficient washing machines. This is why you can find a plethora of HE washing machines. These machines consume less energy and water. But despite that, we are still consuming a lot of energy and water when doing our laundry.

Simple conservation tips and techniques can help you cut back on consumption of natural resources. You should learn the following laundry tips:

1. If some of your clothes have stubborn stains, separate them from your other clothes first and pre-treat them. Use a good stain remover and soak your clothes in this cleaning solution overnight. The stains should be gone the next morning. This will prevent you from running a hot water cycle. Appliances tend to consume a lot of energy when heating up water. This is why you should minimize the use of the hot water function of your machine.

2. Wash in full cycles only. Maximize the drum space of your laundry appliance. Although most machines use up less water when cleaning small laundry loads, they still use up the same amount of energy as full laundry cycles. It is not economical in terms of energy consumption. Avoid running small laundry loads and stick to full cleaning cycles.

3. Avoid using a lot of laundry detergent. If you are using HE detergent, a little bit goes a long way. You don't need to use cups of detergent to clean your clothes. The machine already does its work in removing dirt and grime in your clothes.

If you are using a detergent that creates a lot of suds, you might have to run an extra rinse cycle to get rid of the soap bubbles on your clothes.

4. Wipe the interior of the machine using an absorbent cloth after doing your laundry. Also open the door of the machine to allow air to penetrate inside. Excess moisture prompts the appearance of molds and mildew. More often than not, washer owners have to run a hot water cycle in order to get rid of molds and mildew. Lessen the likelihood of mold and mildew growth by letting your machine dry completely.

5. Instead of using the dryer, hang your clothes up to dry. The spin cycle of the machine can already remove a lot of moisture in clothes. By the time it goes to the dryer, it is already relatively dry. It can actually dry up faster if you hang it up. Take advantage of the nice weather.

Energy and water conservation should be at the top of your list. Make sure you follow these simple tips when you are doing your laundry.
