Four tips to overcome overwhelm

Many entrepreneurs I've met are blessed with creativity and ingenuity. They love innovative ideas, products and services and are never short of plans to drive their business forward.

Yet sometimes, although it's important to stay ahead, taking on too much all at once can lead to lack of focus and complete overwhelm. And nothing acts faster to mess up productivity, and ultimately revenue than this particular combination.

Instead what works is single-mindedness and concentration. From time to time this means getting back to basics - working on a few well thought through business and marketing activities - and doing them consistently. That way you are more likely to achieve your goals (step by step) and most importantly, experience greater satisfaction and confidence in yourself and your business.

Should you find yourself snowed under' then try these four tips to get back on track..

Buff up your existing products and services rather than introduce something new. Make sure what you offer works well to meet the needs of your clients now. Later you can make changes or introduce a new service when you have a well-oiled machine in place.

Let go of anything which is not working for you, such as a networking group, a committee responsibility or a project which is taking up too much time, money and effort. Like decluttering your home, when you let go of goals and ideas that are no longer useful, you immediately create a sense of space and clarity.

Choose just two or three ways to market your products and services. There is always room for mastery in marketing, so aim for excellence in what you enjoy doing - for example go to town' on your newsletters, attend two or three networking eventsregularly, or spend time nurturing your referral partners and helping them in return.

Simplify everything! Start with one area and then move on. For example, work out a quick and straightforward process to make social media work for you; rather than the other way round. You can set up your own personal guidelines for your tweets and Facebook activities - such as 10 minutes a day sharing a relevant link, posting a quote, advertising an event or connecting with one or two people to build a relationship.

Being successful requires doing things consistently every day. You may be amazed by the overnight sensations' but they would probably be the first to admit that it took many years of concentrated determination.

As you perfect the present and focus your energy and attention, you will overcome the overwhelm and, with less effort, attract more clients and do more business.
