What is Microsoft Lync about

I work in an office with a lot of people, and the downfall of working in such a big office is communication. We have been eagerly waiting for Microsoft Lync to hit our computers, and see the difference in communication. Lync 2010 is the next generation of Office Communications Server (OCS). Unlike OCS, Lync manages various forms of communication from one UI: instant messages, voice calls, video calls, meetings, and shared whiteboard sessions. Lync also includes enterprise voice capabilities to reduce legacy infrastructure costs.

Something else I find interesting about Microsoft Lync is that, Lync can also connect with Windows Live Messenger for voice and video conversations, though there's no mention of support with the Xbox Kinect. On a conference call, when someone has poor audio or is adding background noise, Lync will automatically identify which phone to mute. More interestingly, device switching lets you swap between your headset and phone in the middle of a call, and you can also use your headset to make a phone call using WiFi. It's pretty amazing!

Anyway the goal of this product was to make communication between offices and clients a whole new experience. Lync2010 is a single interface that allows audio, video, instant messaging and web conferencing all with the click of a simple button. Microsoft Lync provides all this and also offers the extra level of privacy and security, so when you are talking about company business, you can rest assured the client is the only one able to read you message. There are many more great features, but it really is best to try it and see for you self. I do not think we will be disappointed with Microsoft Lync
