Skoda growing in popularity
Skoda growing in popularity

Growing up in the 90's I can clearly remember a stigma about Skoda, they were dubbed as ugly, unreliable and "cheap", since VW has taken all this has changed. People's perception of the brand has changed, even up until 2003 people laughed at Skoda drivers.

But, things are changing and Skoda is changing its image. People are now not embarrassed of driving or owning a Skoda and this is reflected in the number of deliveries the brand made in 2010 so far. The brand delivered a record 568,990 vehicles to customers in the first nine months of 2010, helping the company to significantly increase its turnover (up 16.3% to 5.6 billion).

As well as an increase in the number of sales the increase in profit was the result of optimising costs and an award winning model line up. Deliveries of new models, such as Skoda Yeti, Skoda Superb, Skoda Superb Estate and other new Skoda in Kings Lynn significantly grew in the first nine months.

Chairman of the Board of Skoda Auto said, "We have never sold more cars in the first nine months of a year than we have done in 2010. We will continue on this path and, in doing so, we want to expand considerably in global growth markets such as Russia, India, and China, while at the same time strengthening our position in Europe."

It appears Skoda will continue growing its reputation and popularity, with models to suit a vast number market segments Skoda is on course to record its most successful year ever with sales of 33,100 vehicles in the first nine months of 2010, up 23% when compared to the same period last year.

The success of Skoda is highlighted even more when we consider the automotive market as a whole is still considerably down on previous years as it struggles to come out of this prolonged recession. This Skoda news has to be good news for other automakers, perhaps the market is finally starting to come out of recession and the market will start to grow steadily.
