subject: Is Accredited Medical Transcription Training From Home Available? [print this page]

If you want to be a medical transcriptionist, you're going to need to get some training. That's not easy to do, fitting classes into your busy lifestyle. It makes taking online classes sound really appealing, but how do you know the classes are going to be worth your time and money. Are there any accredited medical transcription schools online?

There most certainly are. But more important than being accredited is what employers think of the program you take. It's not that hard for a school to get accredited through fake agencies, unfortunately.

The best accreditation to look for is AHDI Approval. This isn't accreditation as such, but they do have strict requirements that the medical transcription program must follow. If the school offers other course, those aren't relevant at all. What matters is how their medical transcription program is run, and its quality. That's what should matter most to you as a student as well.

This approval means that their course content has been checked out, and should give you enough training that you will gain the skills to work as a medical transcriptionist. It is not a guarantee that you will gain those skills, as this requires you to be a dedicated student.

This isn't easy for many people. It takes a lot of effort to learn how to study and work from home successfully. Not everyone manages it successfully.

You're going to miss working with other people, most likely. Being at home when you study or work gets very lonely. For some that's a big plus, but for others it's a negative aspect that can keep them from getting things done.

You will need to be very driven and dedicated to your education. Most online courses are at least partially self paced. If you don't keep yourself moving, you will take too long with your studies. Self paced doesn't mean there are no deadlines, just that you have what should be more than sufficient time to complete your course work on your own.

You'll need that dedication when you start working too. Working at home means no boss checking in on you all of the time. Home based medical transcription usually pays on production. You don't work hard, you don't earn much.

It all starts with that high quality training program, of course. Take the time to figure out which school is right for you and really work hard on your studies. You aren't going to succeed in medical transcription without a lot of hard work.
