Lose Weight - Exercise Techniques To Burn More Fat

There is a common misunderstanding that the longer you take to do a high intensity exercise such as running, swimming or cycling the more fat you will burn. The reality is that after exercising for about twenty minutes your body changes biologically as it reverts to utilising a greater amount of body fat to fuel the energy that is needed to perform the exercise. However, if your aim is weight loss then, the key factor you need to understand and focus on is the total number or percentage of burnt or used calories rather that the amount of fat used.

This may be a little confusing so, let me explain. When you are sitting still or standing you are using less energy as an example, let's say you are burning up to thirty per cent of your body fat. When beginning an exercise such as running the ratio of the amount of body fat you are burning changes. The percentage of body fat being burned lowers or decreases as your body reverts to using up more amounts of carbohydrates to fuel the energy needed to move your body.

While maintaining the running for approximately fifteen to twenty minutes the body will revert back to utilising a greater proportion (approximately seventy five percent) of body fat to sustain the energy levels needed for the body to keep moving. At this point in the exercise more of your body fat is used to fuel the body.

There are also scientific studies that have revealed that performing high intensity workouts during short time periods of 20 to 30 minutes a day is more effective at improving your cardiovascular health than doing the same exercises at a lower intensity over a longer period of time.

As always, speak with your doctor or a medical expert to check your physical health and for guidance before beginning any exercise or fitness program.
