subject: Engineering Jobs - Looking For Work In The Modern World [print this page]

If you are a trained engineer, then you may have found yourself in the same situation that thousands of people all over the country are now experiencing. Basically, you may have found yourself out of work. The economy has recently taken a bad turn, and this turn is affecting people from all walks of life, no matter how skilled or experienced that are. If you are having trouble finding work, then the problem probably isn't you. The problem may actually be where you are looking for work. This can mean several different things, but we are talking about the sector or industry in which you are looking, as well as the method you are using. The world is different from the way it was even ten years ago, which means that you have to use a different perspective in order to find good engineering jobs.

First, let's talk about the market or sector that you should be looking in for engineering jobs. There was a time not too long ago when you would want to be in the manufacturing sector. The world is simply not this way now. As a matter of fact, the manufacturing sector is probably the last place you want to look. Many economists are predicting a turnaround in this sector sometime soon, but when economists say "soon" they are talking about a decade or two. Unless you have plenty of money saved up, you're probably going to want to find a job a little sooner than that. Instead, why don't you consider looking in the energy sector, which is rapidly growing as we speak? This is the future of domestic growth, at least for the time being.

Next, if you are looking for engineering jobs, you are going to have your choice of methods to use. For example, some people will use their contacts. This is always a good start. If your contacts are coming up dry, however, or if they are in the same situation you are in now, you are going to want to go in a different direction. How about phone calls and scheduled meetings? This can work in some cases, but you probably want to start by going online.

When you search online, you can actually find a website dedicated to engineering jobs in the energy sector. In other words, this is a website that hits the nail on the head. This is exactly the audience you want to target. You can post your resume so that you can play the game, and you can browse listings and find out what is available in your area.
