Most of you who know me, know that I am not a big fan of decorating that is too trendy. I encourage leaning more toward a timeless type of design with furniture pieces that have good bones in classic frames, so that fabrics can be changed when the desire strikes you. This is always a better way to invest in your home's dcor than starting from scratch each time.
One trend that is in however (that I must say I am glad to see) is the reemergence of black and white. It seems like black and white will trend out for awhile, but then it keeps on coming back. We are now seeing this great standby paired with lime green or hot pink in both traditional and contemporary settings. The sharp contrast of black and white is classy and yet dramatic. If you are not sold on black and white, try adding touches of black to your dcor.
Whether you go with black and white or a more colorful scheme in your home, the key is using colors you love and can live with for awhile. Most people invest a lot more in their home dcor than they do in their wardrobe. Trendy clothes that are good for a season can be fun and then tossed out. It is not so easy to do that with counter tops or flooring. I am sure many of you experienced purchasing that Avocado Green Refrigerator or Mauve sofa and then a few years later were wondering "Why did I buy that"?
No matter how careful we consider any trend or style, it will most likely look "dated" at some point. The key is to make choices that you can love and enjoy for the long haul, and not just because it is the "in thing right now". If, like me, you have always loved the look of black and white, then go for it. If not, maybe a more tried and true home dcor color scheme is for you.
