subject: Top Three Most Fun Films Of 2009 [print this page]

2009 has not exactly been the best year at the box office. Many of the films that have come out during the summer season either fell flat or completely divided audiences who could not decide here or there on what was hit or miss. However, here are three films that I personally considered to be the most fun films of 2009 so far, and should definitely be checked out by movie buffs and regular movie buffs alike.

The first movie I had real fun watching was Star Trek, the reboot of the long running science fiction franchise. I was not a Start Trek fan when I walked into the film. In fact, I hated the franchise due to the obsessive fanboys and convoluted continuity. But Star Trek gave the franchise a fresh start and was accessible to newbies. Not to mention it was very well directed, a lot of fun, and had a fantastic cast. This is a film that should satisfy fans of the original series, and even make believers out of people who have never cared for it, like me.

Another fun time I had at the theater was Terminator Salvation. Sure, this film will not be carrying home any Oscars or anything like that, but it was fun. Christian Bale puts up a good performance as John Connor. The film has enough in it to satisfy fans of the Terminator franchise, but simultaneously introduces completely new elements to ensnare new fans. It has a solid story and cast that make it a pretty interesting ride.

And finally, the film I have had the most fun with this year is the zomedy, Zombieland. This film had it all. It had a great cast, with a standout performance from Woody Harrelson. It had one of the most fun premises in years. And it also had what I think is one of the very best cameos of all time. This film was just pure popcorn munching fun, and was filled to the brim with laughs. Not to mention, it has a great soundtrack.

Now, sure, there is still some time left in 2009, but it just has not matched the level of fun had in 2008 by most moviegoers. However, I am still holding on to some hope that the remainder of the year warrants some good things, and even if it does not, there is still 2010 to look forward to after all.
