subject: The Brilliant Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 - The Perfect Budget Smartphone [print this page]

The X8 is the newest addition to the ever growing range of Xperia handsets from popular manufacturer Sony Ericsson. The impressive aspect of this new handset is its size, without the sacrifice of any of the smartphone features that are on offer.

The X8 does not offer the real high end features found on its big brother the X10, however it does offer a comprehensive range of facilities that see it rightly pitched along sides the likes of the Wildfire from HTC and the Optimus One from LG. Social Networking fans will appreciate not only the individual applications available for sites such as Twitter and Facebook, but also the useful Timescape feature. Updates from sites of these are grouped together on a time line alongside more local information such as incoming messages and received calls. The X8 incorporates a high quality screen that measures 3 inches. This is capable of displaying a high quality image at a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels alongside a great range of up to 16 million colours. The results are pleasing, with graphics not only possessing great clarity but also vivid colours. A proximity sensor is useful in that it automatically locks the screen during a call in order to prevent keys being accidentally pressed, and the accelerometer chip does a good job of flipping the display into widescreen mode when necessary. The screen is also scratch resistant, helping it not only stay looing great, but also working to its full potential for longer.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is the perfect handset for browsing the web, whether you are at home, work or on the move. The fact that this model sports 3G facilities means that whilst on the go browsing the web need not be a chore, with very fast data exchange rates. The unit does also feature GPRS and EDGE facilities should 3G coverage not be achievable. The Wireless LAN option does however give the most pleasing experience online where you have access to a WiFI network. Media wise the unit covers all bases with Photo, Video and Audio features all well represented. Photographs can be taken at a resolution of 3.15 mega pixels, backed up with video recording at VGA quality at 30 frames per second.

The Experia X8 from Sony Ericsson really is the perfect budget end smartphone. If you are looking for a feature laden phone without the bulk of some of the more high powered model, then this really is the handset for you.
