subject: Why The Ground Zero Mosque Should Not Be Built [print this page] Even though I don't live in New York anymore, every time I hear about the proposed Ground Zero Mosque, I see red. The only good thing about the whole affair is working people vowing not to lift a
finger in its construction.
Our current cowardly, P.C. politicians have certainly failed us, Mayor Bloomberg in particular, along with his ideological soul brother, Barack. And of course, all the limousine liberals, from
Manhattan's Upper West Side. A national poll, taken just yesterday, shows that 73% of all Americans do NOT want this mosque built, at that site. But liberals are using the phony and hypocritical
"tolerance issue," as a defense.
Let's be clear: tolerance is, or ought to be, a two-way street. I have no problem with a mosque elsewhere in New York. But there is no question that THIS site for a mosque is a political statement and
blatant example of intolerance...toward the rest of us. This is a thumb in the eye for all those who lost loved ones on 9/11. And, however it is justified, the fact is, it would be seen as Islamic
triumphalism by more radical elements around the world. To pretend otherwise is an insult to our intelligence.
Reasonable, pluralistic, moderate Muslims of good will know this. A few of the braver ones
have said so.
As a matter of law, once the property was acquired by the Muslim group, it was free to do whatever itwanted with the land. New York State law does not (and should not) discriminate, with regard to who
may purchase land and develop it. That's all well and good.
But here's where the heart of the issue lies: While American citizens bend over backwards to accomodate ALL religions, Islam has not and does not. In countries all over the world, at this very
moment, Christians andespecially Jews, along with all other religions, are persecuted, harassed and killed by radical followers of Islam. This is plainly wrong (not to mention intolerant, in the
extreme). Yet no Imam, of any significant rank in the Muslim world, has spoken out against this practice (or if so, we haven't heard of them).
We should look to Italy for a blatant example of this. The Muslim community wanted to build a mosque inRome. The Pope and the office of the Vatican, supported them. The quid pro quo was that Christians
living in the Middle East were to be afforded the opportunity to practice their religion, without harassment. The Saudi's took the lead in making this promise and putting up almost all of the money
to build the mosque, which wasbuilt near Vatican City, the very heart of Christendom.
The mosque was built...and...you guessed it, the Saudi's did absolutely nothing to stop persecutions, harassmentand killings. They apparently suddenly became "deaf." In fact, in the last five
years, this type of activity in Muslim countries has actually increased.
Not so very long ago, the Taliban dynamited two of the most beautiful ancient Buddhist statues inthe world, at the behest of Mullah Omar. This, despite the pleadings to spare these magnificent
works of art from archeologists, art loversand curators around the civilized world. That should tell you all you need to know about their idea of "tolerance."
Think the Saudi's would allow a Church or Synogogue to be built in Mecca? That's right...NO! I don't want to hear another word about how WE need to be tolerant of Muslims. Did anyone take out their
outrage on mosques, or innocent, random muslims after 9/11? No. They did not. But our forbearance and true tolerance is interpreted as "weakness" by the radicals.
All the apologists for Islam should just shut their traps. This would include the President, who once said if he had to choose, he would rock with the Muslims. (I guess that's why he can't find a
church to attend in Washington, or maybe, it might interfere with his golf, or basketball games.) Keep in mind that the Obama Administration State Department paid for the New York Imam to go on
a peaceful "fundraising trip" to the Middle East, for which WE are paying. It's a good bet that he's visiting those liberal Saudi bankers, who will be filling his coffers with money that will make a
difference.
While we can't stop the Imam and his group from building on this hallowed site, we certainly should expose their hypocrisy. If we are going to be accused of intolerance, then "what's good for the goose
is good for the gander." I want to hear their Imams preaching peace and brotherhood and insisting on the right of ALL people to practice their religion, not just theirs.
If they can't do that, then no American should lift a finger to help them build a provacative monument to bigotry, extremism and murder.
