Control Your Relationship Tips That'll Keep You in the Driver's Seat

Are you powerless every time you start to date a guy and you'd like to find a way of keeping some control in your relationship? Do the guys you meet tend to be strong willed and decisive and you feel you're not allowed to really speak up? Or are you the one who is attracted to the opinionated men because you don't trust your own opinion? Women hand over the power to the men in their lives for various reasons. However, once you decide you need to have some control in your life, here's how to proceed.

There are some guys who have a knack for zeroing in on the woman who seems a bit lost, unsure and lacking in confidence. He sweeps in, flatters her and before long he's making all the decisions and she's left silently following.

If this resembles you, you're best option is to recognize this controlling man right from the start. When a man is too persistent and insistent, it's not really a show of affection or attraction to you. It shows a lack of respect.

But some guys are good hearted, but simply fall into the habit of making more decisions than they should. Try making small suggestions if you're unsure about yourself. If he accepts these small suggestions, you'll feel increasingly confident about making more decisions.

And then there is the guy who makes all the decisions simply because you're refusing to make any. You're giving him no choice but to decide what restaurant to have dinner at or what movie to see. Chances are if you can find the courage to speak up every once in a while, he'll actually feel a load of pressure being taken off his shoulders.

A relationship is rarely equally balanced when it comes to the distribution of power, but it shouldn't be so off kilter that you don't feel comfortable. Realize right from the start of a relationship that if you can't have a minimum degree of power, you'll never be truly happy.

Find your voice, small at first if you need it to be, and let him know that you do have a mind of your own and the capacity to decide what you really want.
