subject: Taking A Look At How To Develop A Great Exercise Routine [print this page]

Everyone who's looking to lose weight needs to carry out a regular exercise routine to help with their weight loss.

However, unless you're attending Birmingham gyms, for example and can take advantage of the knowledge of a personal trainer, it can be difficult to know what you should be doing.

Follow these seven steps, though and you should be able to put together a great exercise regime perfectly suited to your needs.

1. Arrange your current lifestyle - the first thing you have to do when looking to develop an exercise routine is arrange your current lifestyle, so to be able to set aside time each day to carry it out.

It doesn't need to be at the same time every day, but as long you can pencil into your diary time for exercise, you should be able to organise the rest of your daily routine around this.

2. Look at what you want to achieve - due to the fact that there are numerous exercises that you can carry out, all of which will have an effect on a different part of your body, it's important that you first look at what you want to achieve.

Whether it's lowering your body weight in general, losing a few pounds around a certain part of your body or developing a specific set of muscles, it's important that you first decide on this so that you can work your routine around it.

3. Research what exercises will help you achieve your goal - once you know what you want to achieve, it's time to start researching what exercises are suitable to helping you achieving your goal.

Have a look online, ask someone who works out regularly or even try and speak to a fitness instructor - whatever you do, just make sure that the exercises you're looking at are suitable for helping you achieve your goal and you know how to carry them out properly.

4. Plan your regime to incorporate 70 percent of exercises that will help you achieve your goal... - to ensure that you don't become bored of a certain exercise, plan your exercise routine so that only 70 percent of it is made up of exercises that are going to help you achieve your goals.

5. ...and 30 percent extra exercises - for the remaining 30 percent, you need to be looking at exercises that you enjoy or which are going to mean you aren't working out the same muscles as you had been for most of your routine - variety is the key to any successful routine, especially if you're not a particular fan of exercising.

6. Learn how to stretch, warm up and cool down - something that's imperative and should be incorporated into every single exercise routine, it's important that you learn how to stretch the muscles that you're going to be using primarily and also know how to warm up and cool down effectively.

7. Be able to record your progress - to ensure that you're aware of how successful your exercise routine is, it's important that you can record your progress. Whether it's on a scrap piece of paper or an in-depth spreadsheet you've setup, it's important that you can track your progress and have the ability to refer to it at any time.
