How to Check a Washing Machine Motor Capacitor

When your washing machine does not work, it'sa good idea to verify the ability of your washing machine motor before you decide to replace the motor. This can be done in several phases.

What you need

flathead screwdriver *

* Needle nose pliers

* Jumper wires with alligator clips on both ends

* Multimeter

Step 1 - Prepare

Remember to unplug your washer. Your equipment is supplied with insulated handles to avoid electric shock.

When you are ready to begin, remove the back panel so you can reach the washer motor. Find the start capacitor, which is the larger of the two capacitors, and remove the metal lid. Before changing anything, make sure to paint a picture of how the son of engine are connected across the capacitor so that you will be able to replace them when done correctly.

Step 2 - Removal of cables

Now you can remove the son of the terminals. Use your needle nose pliers for this.

Step 3 - Run Discharge capacitor

Discharge of run capacitor by placing an alligator clip jumper on your capacitor box, and place the other on the metal stem of your screwdriver. Next, place the blade of a screwdriver to the terminals and the shaft of the screwdriver to the other terminal. This will cause the capacitor to a short circuit, which means that you can negotiate with him without worrying shocked because he has an office store and can cause a shock, even when unplugged.

Step 4 - Configure the multimeter

Change your multimeter so that it is defined at the scale of OHM. When done, press the two-point lead to another and move the dial until the needle reaches zero and then up.

Step 5 - Checking the capacitor

Touch the terminals of the capacitor. The black wire goes right, the red wire goes on the left. This should make the needle on the meter jump from zero to the right before returning to zero. Then you have to reverse the son. This will move the needle even further from zero, before returning. If needle does not move, it means that your capacitor is not working.
