Weston Super Mare totally new attraction is ready as the Grand Pier reopens!

Weston Super Mare has seemed a much duller place since July of 2008 when the last grand Pier was burnt down and totally destroyed by a devastating fire. First it stood in a tangled mess of black bent steel, but this was quickly removed and the seascape looks range without the Pier which was the attraction which brought so many visitors to Weston Super Mare. Quite coincidentally my grandfather was witness to the last fire which destroyed the first grand Pier in the year of 1933!

However, Weston Super Mare can now boast one of the finest Piers to be found anywhere in Europe today, proving that every cloud does have a silver lining when you take the time to look for it.

Although it has took two year and MANY unforeseen challenges to erect the new Grand Pier, (I have to say) looks really marvellous on the outside and even more spectacular when illuminated by neon lights at night!

The structure is state of art and has not been rebuild in the style of what you would expect of a traditional British holiday resort, as the design looks as though it would be just as at home in Turkey or the Islamic World as it does here in Weston Super Mare. Personally I just love it and the more I see it the more I like and feel that it is just what the town needed.

To take advantage of the chaos which the rebuild has caused, the town council in their wisdom decided to rebuild the sea defences at the very same time. For ages it was a total mess and a total disaster, but now as it finishes the area look spectacular.

Although it was originally planned to open in the middle of the summer holiday period the grand opening had to wait until the autumn holiday break and it eventually opened on the 23 or October 2010 and I was right at the front of the queue for this exciting event.

The inside of the new Grand Pier was everything I had expected of it as they had rebuild and improved upon many of the old attractions that made the Grand Pier popular in the first place, as well as adding in many new ones. I spend a full half day looking around and being entertained by the Grand Pier attractions and entertainments and know that it will become a place I will visit with my children regularly throughout the year.
